How i started my journey

I was running a Disk Jockey / Entertainment business in Manitoba Canada. I wanted to raise my rates, prove my value and not be a weekend DJ who can’t make a living. After doing lots of research into the competition. I learned about Digital Marketing from Digtalmarketer.com taking all the advanced certifications they had: lead magnets, facebook ads, Google ads, Analytics, Copywriting, automated email marketing and crm systems. Using tools like builtwith gave me insights about the tools my competition was using. I had to do my research and had limited funds. First I found Infusionsoft. Which made me very excited. However the price tag was a bit steep, I then found hubspot making the price of infusionsoft feel incredibly reasonable. But then I stumbled upon ActiveCampaign with over 150K users at the time. It did everything that infusionsoft did and most of what hubspot did. I did my research on g2crowd which is a great comparison tool. So I decided to jump on the bandwagon and lay out some automations. I eventually made an entire system and ti worked very well. I finally increased my revenue 5x. I was fully employed making a good living as a Disc Jockey and entertainment provider and only working at weddings in the summer. Leaving the winters wide open. So of course I found a job in Marketing.

It didn’t last long before I decided to make it on my own and build an app. Which turned out to be a huge flop. I spend my entire life savings and it was great just didn’t sell. It was actually stolen by another company. They couldn’t get it launched the right way either. LOL. I think it was a bit ahead of it’s time. Anyway, This forced me to look for new opportunities. I decided to go to Activate in Chicago. An ActiveCampaign Conference. During the conference they were looking for new ActiveCampaign Consultants to help them deliver their services. I decided to take the leap. Leads started flowing but very slowly and I had some experience but not alot by far. Eventually I landed a few clients and helped them build their sales and marketing systems. The process of building, testing, rebuilding took a bunch of time. And it didn’t take too long for me to discover the power of using tools like Zapier and Make which are 3rd party application interface connection no code tools. Which pass data back and forth. Like to use of booking Calendars, or Adding Attendees to Webinars so we can confirm with the users. Etc. The main point i’m trying to make is that building an entire system from beginning to end took more than 1 year for these first clients. Sometimes it’s taken 3 or 4 years of adding things and making them more efficient. The average spend with these first few clients was between 20k and 40k working part time mostly over 1 year of time until we had a really good system working for them.

After this many years, I have found the things that have the greatest impact on business:

lead nurture sequence

This varies depending on what the offer or lead magnet is. If it’s a courses sometimes we would start with a quiz to put the student in the right class, sometimes it’s a corporate survey. Sometimes it just an info sheet. But whatever it is, you have gained interest in your product or service and you need to keep in touch with these people the most. So the nurture sequence sends them relevant into in bite sized chunks and asks your client/customer to take the next step with you.

Follow up sequences

Any time a client takes the next step with your business you need to follow up in most all stages of your sales CRM. Reminding them to rebook a meeting, reminding them to review your proposal, reminding them that they needed x amount of time to decide if the service is right for them.

Email Campaigns

Not sure I need to touch very much on this point. But letting your clients know what you're up to as an organization creates a sense of community. Sending out campaigns periodically helps nurture the sale of the first, second or whatever product they may be interested in.

What's working and tracking

Tracking engagement from all of your marketing actions is very important. Whether it's making sure that your community is still engaged with your content. Or being able to see which prospects are most interested in what you are talking about. Each Email campaign you send should give you insights on conversions to sales and in what amount of time. Where are they coming from? A digital advertisement? A referral? An email campaign? Where are you spending your marketing and advertising budget and are you wasting your $$ on zero results?
